Are the Bees Going to Make it?
Jan 30, 2012
So I'm getting a little concerned with hive #2 or Kashyyyk as it known by some. There has been a lot of dead bees outside the front entrance since the winter has started. Hive #1 or Coruscant has a few dead bees out front but nothing compared to #2.

I checked in the hive a few weeks ago before I treated with Oxalic acid and the population seemed robust and active. Not really knowing how much honey was left, a dry sugar or Mountain Camp feeding was put in place. Check out Mudsong's bee blog to see a video of the process. The Quilt box seems to be working well, the moisture is rising up through the wood chips and condensing on the inner cover. Hive #1 has quite a bit more condensation than #2 so that means that there is less bees in #2. You might have to click on the image to see the moisture.

Hopefully there will be a warm day soon so I can pop the cover and see what is going on in there. I'm crossing my fingers that the bees can make until the spring!
