It's the Bee's Knees
Feb 24, 2011
What did I get myself into? I've taken a liking to bees, or perhaps what bees stand for.
I live in East Vancouver in a duplex with very little garden space. 2 kids, a wife and the knowledge that we will never be able to afford a house in Vancouver with a garden. We like living in Vancouver and don't want to spend hours commuting that could be spent living life. We do have plots at a 2 community gardens, I like to garden. I enjoy the feeling of growing things. One day maybe I can keep bees at the garden but for now I am keeping them on top of our carport in the back lane. My grandfather was a farmer and as a child we never lived on a farm but I consider my father the consummate farmer . There is a saying that we do eventually become our parents and perhaps the inner farmer has finally arrived. Most farmers have some sort of livestock and soon I will have 10's of thousands of little animals to care for.
When I decided that I was going to have bees I took out books from the library, watched videos online and went to bee club meetings. I found that there is so much info out there that it is very overwhelming. I'm going to document as much as i can throughout the process. not so much to show how to do it but how it feels to do it.
As I always tell my incredibly supportive wife, "I just want to share the stoke"
