Swarm Season
May 12, 2015
Wow, Started this season off with multiple seperate swarms. I managed to catch a few and Start some new colonies. Here are a few pictures.
Early in the season a swarm landed on some grapevines in a yard not far from our community garden. It was a small swarm so i am guessing it was a secondary swarm with a virgin queen possibly.
We managed to get the bees in a box but it took some coaxing to get them to stay as i wasn't sure we got the queen.
A few days later i caught this beautiful swarm in a ornamental plum tree. it was drizzling with rain but they didnt seem to mind and they went into a swarm box and were happy. you can see them fanning their nasanov glands to let the other bees know where to go.
